A REALLY GOOD ARTICLE BY A FRANCISCAN FRAIR

“For me, the two correctives of all spirituality are silence and service. If either of those is missing, it is not true, healthy spirituality. Without silence, we do not really experience our experiences. We may serve others and have many experiences, but without silence, nothing has the power to change us, to awaken us, to give us that joy that the world cannot give, as Jesus says. And without clear acts of free service (needing no payback of any sort, even “heaven”), a person’s spiritual authenticity can and should be called into question. Divine Love always needs to and must overflow!

To live in this primordial, foundational being itself, which I am calling silence, creates a kind of sympathetic resonance with what is right in front of us. Without it, we just react instead of respond. Without some degree of silence, we are never living, never tasting, as there is not much capacity to enjoy, appreciate, or taste the moment as it purely is. The opposite of contemplation is not action, it is reaction. We must wait for pure action, which always proceeds from a contemplative silence in which we are able to listen anew to truth and to what is really happening. Such spiritual silence demands a deep presence to oneself in the moment, which will probably have the same practical effect as presence to God.

You do not hear silence (precisely!), but it is that by which you do hear. You cannot capture silence. It captures you. Silence is a kind of thinking that is not thinking. It’s a kind of thinking which mostly sees(contemplata). Silence, then, is an alternative consciousness. It is a form of intelligence, a form of knowing beyond bodily reacting or emotion. It is a form of knowing beyond mental analysis, which is what we usually call thinking. All of the great world religions at the higher levels(mystical) discovered that our tyrannical mode of everyday thinking (which is largely compulsive, brain-driven, and based on early patterning and conditioning) has to be relativized and limited, or it takes over, to the loss of our primal being and identity in ourselves. I used to think that mysticism was the eventual fruit of years of contemplation; now I think it all begins with one clear moment of mystic consciousness, which then becomes the constant “spring inside us, welling up unto eternal life.”

About the Author: Richard Rohr is a Franciscan friar, an internationally known speaker and author, and founding director of the Center for Action and Contemplation. The above passage is from his book, Silent Compassion: Finding God in Contemplation.”

HOW A FAMOUR BUSINESSMAN USED MEDITATION TO SUCCEED

I was having one of those days — maybe you’re familiar with them? — when I felt like a passenger on a fast, jerky subway train, holding the handrail tight just to stay standing, each turn throwing me off balance.

I gave a presentation that received a standing ovation and left the stage on top of the world. Then I read an angry email from someone and became angry myself. Following that, I did a fun on-radio interview and I was energized. A little later, I received feedback that I talked too much in a meeting and I was embarrassed and disappointed in myself… Download Article or read more Peter Bregman Stuff

SPIRITUAL PRACTICE IS ESSENTIAL TO BEING A BRILLIANT MANIFESTER. CONSCIOUS BREATHING – HERE’S HOW

Conscious breathing is something I keep referring to and writing about and if you do nothing but this as your spiritual practise, you will be doing a brilliant practice!

Here’s how:

1. find a quiet place where you will be undisturbed

2. set an alarm for three minutes so that you can completely let go and not worry about the time

3. close your eyes and bring your attention on your breathing

4. breathe in for the count of 4, pulling air to  your tummy so that it expands, hold it for 2 seconds, and then softly exhale for the count of 6, hold it out for 2  seconds.

5. Repeat this breathing until your alarm clock goes.

CONSCIOUS BREATH IS THE FIRST CONTACT WITH YOUR SOUL

Tuning into your Soul, the overlighting intelligence and energy of your life is as simple as four easy steps, taking no longer than 3 minutes a day.

These steps are:

1. find a quiet place where you will be undisturbed
2. set the alarm clock for three minutes
3. close your eyes and bring your attention on your breathing.
4. breathe in for the count of 4, pulling air into the tummy so that it expands, hold it for a second, and then softly exhale for the count of 6, hold it for a second. Repeat this breathing until your alarm clock goes.
At first you might find your mind chips in, chattering away about what you need to do or other such stuff. When that happens, gently bring your attention back to the process of counting your breaths in and out. Just become breathing and counting, counting and breathing. With practice easier and a feeling of deep peace enters in.
The beauty of this is that starting off each day with this exercise gives you a sense of control of your life. Even more exciting is the scientific fact that this type of breathing releases feel- good chemicals in the brain (serotonin).
‘Imagine that the universe is a great spinning engine. You want to stay near the core of it – right in the hub of the wheel – not out at the edges where all the wild whirling takes place, where you can get frayed and crazy. The hug of calmness, that your heart, that where God lives within you, where you will always find peace. ‘  Anon

Meditation is Good for Business

Meditation is good for business. Believe it or not, mediation not only brings inner peace and serenity, but it’s also a brilliant way improve business effectiveness.
I’ve been trying to re-position my product for the last little while (my product is me, of course). The process of trying to work out what I should do, for who and how created some hectic mental churn over the last two weeks. At the same time I’ve been busy, out there. Meetings, dinners, gym, stacks of things to do, so much so that my daily spiritual practice has taken a back seat.

Finally today I cleared the decks and made time to be still and go within. Guess what? Although it wasn’t my aim, at the end I had a clear mental image, stated in simple terms, of how to name my work, where to offer it and who to phone. The result? When I called the client who came to mind, with the suggestion that had come to mind, she lit up, (I could feel it even over the phone!) saying ‘this is exactly what we have been wanting to do, but haven’t got round to it. Write me a proposal and let’s go!’
As we talked I got a Ride the River (name of my book) experience – streams of energy poured through my body, giving me goose bumps. And that. for me, is always physical confirmation that I am on the right track, doing the right thing.
When we take our business troubles to meditation, elegant and simple answers come about in marvellous ways. To find our more about meditation you could start with  http://www.freemeditations.com/healing-meditation.html. It seems really comprehensive. Let me know how you find it.
When I looked for Christian Meditation  sites these two came up http://www.freemeditations.com/christian_meditation.html and http://www.grainofwheat.net/journey.html. Would love your comment on these too, and any other recommendations.

IF YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT TO DO, ASK YOUR SOUL…. HERE’S HOW

Your Soul holds the blueprint for your life. It knows every option that you have faced in the past, and the path you actually chose and why. It knows every tiny detail of your human life- as well as the vision of your Spirit. It knows every single possible option, feeling and situation that you face today. And it knows the millions of permutations and possibilities that face you every day for the rest of your life. What an ally!

No amount of psychic consultations, therapeutic sessions, lectures or teachers could come anywhere near offering this personal perspective on your life. There is no more empowering or important thing that you can do today than spend time deliberately connecting with your Soul.

How do you do it? Take just three minutes of quiet time, get still and become aware of your breathing. Become your breath. Count it in. Count it out. Only three minutes a day is enough to build a potent and direct link to your Soul. Conscious breath is the first contact with the Divine. I did this and ended up ‘downloading’ an amazing book that changed my life completely. So I can vouch for this approach. It works!

Meditation – It Saves Me!

I’m doing lots of changing and rearranging in my world and I notice how jolly easy it is to revert back to using the mind 100% to get things going. What starts out as a thought often ends up as mental churn!

Wow! gosh… and then before I know it my entire stream of energy has shrunk and constricted. In that place I’m out of alignment with my Soul and life become much more difficult at every level.

Meditation –  it saves me. Gosh how it changes how I feel. I love the Kundalini Meditation from the Anandi Giri of the Oneness University. I searched high and low to find a site that sells this CD, but no luck. Sorry!
